Effect of changing lighting conditions on the productivity of permanent morning shift workers at an industrial workplace

In a field study, the psychophysiological and productivity-related effects of the changing lighting conditions of workers at the Flextronics Althofener plant were recorded during the morning shift. The first study (preliminary study) compared two dynamic lighting concepts. This was followed by a pilot study in which 6 lighting conditions were tested.

Two dynamic lighting scenarios were selected for the main study. In a 9-week main study during months when there was little daylight, both these dynamic scenarios were compared with standard lighting according to EN 12464-1 by means of multidisciplinary measuring methods (e.g. industrial psychology surveys, electrocardiography, actigraphy and recording of specific key productivity figures).
