This study is based on a psychological approach to light in the urban environment in order to improve perceptual and residential quality in inner cities at night. Due to numerous confounding variables that can occur in field tests in the real world, VR technology was chosen as the study methodology. Four central questions were formulated:

1. Does the more expensive creation of VR scenes offer added value for the evaluation of light in comparison to classic visualisation methods e.g. in comparison to Photoshop or Relux Suite?

2. Is VR technology suitable for reliably recording psychological constructs to also encourage future light studies to use this methodology?

3. Do various planning approaches (e.g. brightening of facades) have an influence on the emotional evaluation?

4. What planning recommendations can be derived from this?
